Chapter 10

A few minutes later, as Wen Yu, sitting in front of the camera, watched the actors shooting, she received a call from Jiang Yunyan.

Quickly moving away, she found a secluded spot to answer, “Big brother~” Her voice was soft, betraying a sense of guilt.

On the other end of the phone, Jiang Yunyan’s signing hand paused, “What’s wrong?”

Wen Yu cleared her throat, “I didn’t change casually; it’s his character. I’m afraid it will affect the whole drama.”

“Mm.” Jiang Yunyan responded in a low voice, “I called to ask if you can accept your agent’s proposal. If not, just expose it. I’ve already had my assistant send the information to your agent. Once exposed, no one will dare to use him again.”

“Ah? You know about this too.” Wen Yu was somewhat surprised.

Jiang Yunyan: “I looked into it casually.”

Wen Yu’s heart moved; he truly was influential. If only he could be a bit more generous with the divorce compensation. She quickly said, “Let’s follow the agent’s advice; she makes sense.”

“I was worried you wouldn’t accept.”

“No problem, I don’t read those comments anyway.” Wen Yu was quite bold.

Jiang Yunyan didn’t say much, seeming to end the call.

Feeling it wasn’t right, Wen Yu thought she should express gratitude. She blurted out, “Big brother, when are you coming home?”

“Hmm?”

Wen Yu snapped back, realizing her words were off, and quickly corrected, “I want to eat scallion-oil noodles!”

“Day after tomorrow.”

Wen Yu breathed a sigh of relief, quickly hung up, then covered her face. Why did she suddenly ask that? If she wanted to thank him, she could’ve bought a gift!

Jiang Yunyan was a workaholic, and though they lived under the same roof, they rarely crossed paths due to her irregular schedule.

Thinking of thanking him, she ended up asking him to make scallion-oil noodles. Wen Yu found it hard to accept herself. Oh well, she could only wait until the day after tomorrow to give him a proper gift.

Jiang Yunyan wasn’t short of money, so the gift didn’t have to be extravagant. Considering his office work and constant computer use, she thought an eye protector would be practical.

Wen Yu posted on Weibo: “Any recommendations for a good eye protector? Accepting suggestions with a small gift reward!”

After posting, she marked all messages as read, calmly exited, completely ignoring the 999+ hate messages and even some excitement.

In the last life, she diligently worked but could only watch the melon show in the end. This time, she was the melon owner, controlling the freshest melon seedlings!

She briskly returned to the monitoring area.

Lv Yuzhu quickly pocketed his phone, sneakily glancing at Wen Yu. Seeing that she seemed unfazed, he hesitated, “Have you… resolved the issue?”

Wen Yu blinked in confusion. When she saw Lv Yuzhu’s guilty and worried expression, her eyes flashed. Lowering her head, she lamented, “No, it was originally me who replaced him.”

“He was also promoted by the investors, not just by his own talent!” Lv Yuzhu exclaimed in frustration, then hesitated, “But I have no evidence.”

Wen Yu looked at Lv Yuzhu with gratitude, “Director Lv, it’s enough that you have this intention. Don’t worry; once our TV series becomes popular, people won’t care so much. They will only think that we chose the most suitable male lead!”

Lv Yuzhu’s eyes reddened, “Teacher Wen, I won’t let you down!”

Wen Yu smiled encouragingly, full of support. Lv Yuzi finished drinking the chicken blood again, staring at the screen, shouting, “action!”

In front of the camera, a handsome and rebellious young man, carrying a backpack, nonchalantly pushed open the door. Inside the room, the middle-aged woman’s face suddenly darkened, “Why are you so late again? Have you been too unruly these days?”

The young man coldly chuckled, turning to enter the room. His room’s door lacked a lock, only an empty hole, and the door couldn’t close completely.

“I’m talking to you! I’m your mother, what’s with this attitude?” The middle-aged woman caught up, shouting hoarsely.

Wen Yu watched with satisfaction. This male lead was her approval.

Lv Yuzi had searched for many male actors, but finding someone with a youthful aura and good acting skills, especially on a budget, was quite challenging. However, they eventually found one.

Entertainment industry still had many talented newbies waiting to be discovered.

Wen Yu enjoyed watching, while on Weibo, her seemingly unaffected posts ignited a new round of arguments. They accused Wen Yu of exploiting the capital, oppressing small idols.

The backlash increased even more than before.

—

“When did Wen Yu die?”
“Help, hasn’t played many noteworthy roles, but keeps trending every now and then, either riding on Jiang Yunyan’s banquet or entering a project with funding.”
“In the entertainment industry, there’s Wen Yu, really admirable.”
“Poor Cheng Xuan, a small idol, only being bullied.”
“The drama ‘Accidentally Became You’ is definitely going to flop!”
“Worked so hard for so long, Cheng Xuan was even practicing lines on the plane, only to be replaced later. Must be heartbreaking.”

Wen Yu’s comment section, various marketing accounts, were chaotic and unreadable. Cheng Xuan gained quite a few fans during this time, and even his scarce endorsements increased.

However, he still wasn’t satisfied, looking at his manager. “Bro, did we hire too few water armies? My name is appearing too infrequently!”

The manager frowned, “Too much is as bad as too little, it can easily cause resentment.”

“But—”

“No buts. I can only do so much, and Wen Yu isn’t a big shot; she’s mainly known for having a lot of antis. A bit of criticism is fine, but too much can backfire,” the manager ruthlessly interrupted.

Cheng Xuan’s face darkened, gritting his teeth, “Fine, quickly get me a few suitable endorsements, preferably male lead roles.”

The manager sighed, opened the computer, and checked the scripts sent over. Encountering Cheng Xuan was indeed his misfortune.

Given his boss’s stance, Cheng Xuan had a financial backer behind him. The manager had no choice but to select fitting scripts, requiring a male lead, good supporting actors, and a competent director. He presented two options for Cheng Xuan to decide.

Cheng Xuan glanced and decisively said, “I’ll take both.”

“Overlapping projects aren’t advisable,” the manager frowned. “Your capabilities aren’t there yet, and intertwining roles may not boost your career; it might even harm you.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll manage. These two dramas only overlap for a month; I’ll be fine,” Cheng Xuan reassured. “Besides, I need to capitalize on my current popularity. In a few days, they might replace me with someone else.”

The manager sighed, conceding to Cheng Xuan’s reasoning. He made calls but encountered reluctance from potential projects. It seemed something was amiss. He checked social media; everything seemed normal. Cheng Xuan, impatient, asked what went wrong. After inquiries, the manager got disturbing news: “You might need to consider changing artists. It seems he’s blacklisted by Jiang Shang

Entertainment. Any projects related to them won’t involve him. I’ve received notices from investors.”
Cheng Xuan, bewildered, heard about the alleged blacklisting by Jiang Shang Entertainment, where Jiang Yunjin, his financial backer, was a shareholder. The idea seemed absurd.

Cheng Xuan, frustrated, exclaimed, “Didn’t Jiang Yunjin dislike Wen Yu? Before, despite being criticized as the third party, and even making advances, Wen Yu remained indifferent. How did it come to this?”

The manager stayed silent, finding it hard to believe.
Cheng Xuan confirmed, it was indeed Wen Yu.
Her again!

“Am I clashing with her again?!” Cheng Xuan kicked the coffee table in anger.

The table flew half a meter, cups wobbling and falling, creating a mess on the floor. Cheng Xuan’s usually refined face showed a touch of hostility as he angrily tapped away on his phone.
—
While the manager pondered a friend’s words, Cheng Xuan, oblivious, angrily posted: “Some people really act with impunity. A pre-arranged endorsement deal, and it gets shut down at the turn of a head. Having connections is really something.”

Clearly in a fit of rage, he lacked composure. However, he was currently in a vulnerable position in public opinion.

As soon as the post hit Weibo, fans immediately expressed concern:

“Seriously? Wen Yu is involved in blacklisting?”

“Too harsh, is Wen Yu really so influential?”

“Poor little idol without connections, I’m definitely not watching ‘Accidentally Became You’ anymore!”

“First time getting to know Cheng Xuan, and it’s in this situation, so heartbreaking.”

“Can’t Wen Yu just be a rich lady? Bullying people in the entertainment industry is too much!”

“Does this mean Wen Yu has connections? I knew it; I don’t know anything about her family situation.”

“Wait, Wen Yu is this powerful, and Cheng Xuan dares to be so defiant?”

“Always feel something’s not right, but can’t quite put a finger on it.”

“Boycott ‘Accidentally Became You’!”
