The Villainess Awakens After Marrying the Male Lead’s Brother - Chapter 09
Chapter 9
After returning from the Jiang family, Wen Yu rested for two days and then joined a new production.
She joined the cast of « Swapping Lives, » but the title has now changed to « Accidentally Became You. »
The script revolves around two teenagers from vastly different families who, due to family conflicts, make the same wish on one fateful night, leading to an unexpected exchange of identities.
However, it’s not a traditional body swap, just a switch in roles.
The girl, suffocated by her controlling parents’ love, and the wealthy but cold and distant boy, who only sees his family briefly during breakfast, exchange identities, leading to a series of unfolding events.
In the story, the initially carefree girl, free from family constraints, starts feeling lonely after spending time in the lavish mansion. Eventually, she takes the initiative to reconnect with her family, bringing warmth to their initially cold demeanor.
On the other hand, the rebellious boy, faced with suffocating parental love, initially rebels fiercely. In contrast to the girl who initially accepts her new role, they clash several times, leading to a softening of the parents. Yet, through subtle interactions in daily life, the boy also begins to feel the warmth of family.
While healing their respective families, the main characters also develop a romantic connection through their swapped identities.
The focus here is on family and love, so Wen Yu, playing the senior schoolmate, doesn’t have many scenes. Originally admiring the male lead, she becomes unhappy when he transforms into a girl with a mysterious relationship to the person she likes. This leads to jealousy, and she attempts to bully the female lead, only to be unexpectedly charmed by her, creating a beautiful and humorous subplot.
In this sweet drama, there are no real villains; everyone is striving to become better, including this supporting female character—whether she’s the fourth or fifth lead.
Even with a limited role, Wen Yu joined the production early, being the major investor. After all, if the show fails, it’s her money at stake!
« Well done! Interestingly, when Wen Yu arrived on set, she found the two who had treated her strangely during the last shoot were also there. Upon meeting, the two girls were stunned. Wen Yu sensed they might be gossiping about the strange coincidence. ‘Teacher Wen!’ Lü Yuzu’s enthusiastic voice rang out as he approached, ‘Come here, I’ve placed a chair next to mine. You can watch the overall screen content anytime, feel at ease.’ The two girls tightened their grip on each other’s hands, filled with regret.
Back then, she thought they’d never meet again, so she openly expressed her displeasure, considering who would like someone chasing a guy with a girlfriend? Unexpectedly, in a different crew, and judging by the director’s attitude, Wen Yu probably brought funding again! Now, they were in trouble.
‘Thank you,’ Wen Yu smiled and thanked, then turned to Xiao Yu, ‘Take the things down.’ She said to Lü Yuzu, ‘I brought bubble tea for everyone.’ Lü Yuzu chuckled, squinting his eyes, ‘Thanks, Teacher Wen!’ Their crew was strapped for cash, and the actors weren’t big names. The most prominent was the leading actress, a bit known but not excessively. If she kept treating everyone, it would overshadow others.
Wen Yu was different. Everyone knew this rich young lady entered the entertainment industry for fun. Xiao Yu efficiently took out the prepared bubble tea from the car’s trunk. The crew helped distribute it, with the more well-known supporting actors being assisted by Xiao Yu and the director’s assistant.
—
‘Thank you, Teacher Wen!’
‘Thank you, Teacher Wen!’
Such voices occasionally echoed on set. The two girls, sandwiched in the middle, trembled. Xiao Yu handed them bubble tea, ‘Here for you.’ ‘Do we get some too?’ The two girls were surprised. They had prepared for rejection. Xiao Yu smiled, ‘Of course, you do. My boss is very kind, not bothered by such things.’ Their faces turned even redder as they took the bubble tea. One of them whispered, ‘Actually, Wen Yu looks pretty good; she’s a natural at this.’
‘Her acting is not bad either. I was shocked that day; she didn’t break character at all. I think she’s the unrequited love of the male lead.’
After saying this, the tension lifted. Initially biased, after getting to know Wen Yu, the prejudice disappeared. They had to admit, Wen Yu was actually quite nice. Since that was the case, there was no need to make things difficult for themselves.
Both of them spontaneously took out their phones to take pictures of the bubble tea and posted on Weibo: ‘Thanks, Teacher Wen, for the bubble tea. Having a cup on such a hot day is really refreshing!’ They were special guest actors, earning a couple thousand per scene, not very prominent, but they had played minor roles in some popular dramas before, gaining a few fans. Adding Wen Yu’s name to their posts stirred discussions: ‘Oh? Didn’t Wen Yu finish shooting over there?’ ‘Is it possible she can’t bear to leave and is lingering around Jiang Yunjin?’ ‘Heard Wen Yu has a bad temper. Is she changing her strategy?’ ‘Ah, my beautiful Wen Yu, is she shooting a new drama again?’
Aowen glanced at her comments, her expression changing. Afraid she might cause misunderstandings about Wen Yu, she hastily explained: ‘No, no, it’s a new crew. Just started filming two days ago.' »
I thought it would be fine after explaining. Ao Nian was quickly called over for filming. In the large production crew, she usually played a minor role, but in this web series, she landed a small character and rushed over for the shoot. When she returned after filming, she checked her phone and her expression changed again. What was originally a dozen comments had turned into thousands. Opening the comments, all she saw was: « So it’s Wen Yu, entering the crew with funds, pushing Cheng Xuan out. »
« Capital is really disgusting, casually ruining someone’s efforts. »
« Wen Yu is too much, it’s one thing to bring funds into the crew, but now bullying a newcomer who has no competition with her is disgusting. »
« Cheng Xuan is really unlucky, encountering a resourceful person like Wen Yu. »
Ao Nian turned pale, hastily grabbing her friend: « I’m done, I shouldn’t have posted that Weibo! » Her friend looked at it and was also shocked, but remained calm: « Don’t panic, let’s see what’s going on first. »
The two quickly went to the Weibo homepage to understand the situation. These days, there might not have been much gossip, but over a thousand comments managed to top the trending list. Clicking in revealed related entries, and the two suddenly realized.
A little idol named Cheng Xuan had complained to fans a few days ago that he had signed a contract for a small web series, but two days before filming, he was replaced because an actress brought funds into the production. Originally, Cheng Xuan’s fans were speculating who it might be. This drama didn’t attract much attention initially, and with no one paying it much mind, Ao Nian’s Weibo post caught Wen Yu’s fans’ attention, leading to its widespread sharing. Wen Yu had a decent level of fame, mainly riding on Jiang Yunjin. Their entangled rumors and the previous live broadcast incident made her facial expressions widely known. A fan of Cheng Xuan happened to see this incident, and things escalated, revealing that the one bullying their little idol was Wen Yu! It made sense. Wen Yu could bring funds to any production.
The public was already somewhat fed up with her behavior, and with the innocent swapping of Cheng Xuan, Wen Yu’s anti-fans intensified the chase, putting it directly on the hot search. Ao Nian, after reading this, took a sharp breath. She was definitely in trouble! Even with a broken mindset, Ao Nian went to Wen Yu and told her the truth. Wen Yu was also surprised.
Cheng Xuan complained to the fans? How shameless! Putting aside other things, did he consider his efforts for this role as serving the patron in bed?
However, facing Ao Nian’s unease, Wen Yu smiled and waved her hand: « It’s okay, I’ll handle this. »
Ao Nian pointed with her finger: « Are you sure it’s okay? I didn’t mean to cause trouble; I just wanted to thank you. »
Nowadays, stars liked being thanked. With a good reputation, both audience and public relations would improve. Wen Yu shook her head again, smiling: « Really, it’s fine! »
Ao Nian blushed at her laughter, looking at her up close without the makeup artist’s magic. She seemed almost natural, with faint and varied eyebrows, lighter lip color, but still fair skin, and her features were still attractive. How could someone be so beautiful in real life?
Before, speaking ill of her in front of her, I deserve to die! Ao Nian was persuaded by her and left in a daze. On the other side, Wen Yu also received a call from her agent. Her agent represents not only her but other artists as well. Otherwise, with the original host’s behavior of readily accepting roles, the agent couldn’t rely on her alone or else they’d starve. Hence, they rarely contacted unless it was necessary. Now, a call came through, and the agent calmly said, « Do you know about the Weibo incident? »
Wen Yu replied, « Just found out. » The agent said, « Then I won’t explain. You don’t need to worry about what happens next. Since you’ve invested in this drama, I suggest maximizing profits. Let the storm pass, what do you think? »
« Huh? » Wen Yu seemed surprised, her voice softened as she said, somewhat aggrieved, « You’re really heartless. Just because I can’t make money for you, you’d rather let me be criticized! »
The agent responded, « … Speak properly! » Wen Yu snorted, « No, dear agent, do you remember the incident you reported to my parents before? No, no, I have to complain too. If my agent doesn’t care about me, I’m like a small cabbage in the field, bullied and ignored. Later, I’ll call my husband. » Her voice became sweeter, full of grievance, with a trembling vibrato.
The agent shivered, about to criticize her acting, when the assistant handed over another work phone with two words written on it: General Jiang. Her expression changed slightly, feeling hopeless, « You don’t need to complain. Your parents called on their own. »
Wen Yu: ?
Wen Yu quickly hung up the phone, pretending not to have heard anything.
