Let Me Sleep a Little Longer [Esports] - Chapter 07
Sun He was taken aback when Su Heng blurted out an awkward “Please guide me well,” unsure how to respond.
She extended her hand directly. “From now on, please take care of me.”
The girl’s voice was calm and gentle, bringing a soft smile to Sun He’s face.
He quickly clasped her pale hand. “Welcome to GI.”
Having finally gained Su Heng’s agreement, the day’s efforts had not been in vain. However, they still faced a daunting challenge:
Getting a novice ready to compete in a professional match and win within a week sounded anything but realistic.
Sun He removed his jacket and sat beside her. “Though it’s confirmed you’ll play the jungle role in next Friday’s game, to become an official member, you *must* win. This is the coach’s minimum requirement for you.”
Su Heng nodded lightly, not annoyed that Sun He had failed to make this clear earlier.
She had already anticipated as much—no one wanted anything without value.
Seeing her calm demeanor, Sun He added, “But I have a lot of confidence in you. Trust me and the other teammates. Like you said yesterday, *League of Legends* is a game that heavily relies on teamwork. We’ll definitely win next Friday.”
Su Heng analyzed calmly, “Since you’re willing to accept my condition, I assume the requirement won’t just be relying on teammates to win. If I can’t demonstrate my own value or gain the others’ recognition during the match, that probably won’t be enough either, right?”
Sun He, already familiar with her sharp thinking, was no longer surprised by her insight. He replied honestly, “You’re right. But I’ll do everything I can to support you. For now, focus on mastering a single champion. As long as it isn’t one of the meta champs, your pick is unlikely to get banned, given that opponents won’t know much about you.”
Su Heng didn’t respond immediately and instead asked out of the blue, “Can’t I play mid-lane?”
Sun He was stunned, confused by the sudden question. “What do you mean?”
Su Heng shook her head. “Never mind.”
She returned to the computer and motioned for Sun He to sit down. Grabbing the mouse, she opened the champion selection screen. “Any recommendations?”
Though surprised by her quick change of topic, Sun He sat beside her as requested.
After some thought, he carefully suggested two common jungle champions: Lee Sin and Rek’Sai.
Lee Sin was agile with high mobility and damage output, but his mechanics were a bit tough for beginners. Rek’Sai, on the other hand, was easier to play, though her defense wasn’t as strong, and her ultimate was somewhat underwhelming.
Sun He explained the skills of both champions in detail, then found professional match footage featuring each for Su Heng to watch.
After quietly finishing the videos, Su Heng nodded at Sun He. “I’ll practice both champions. That way, you won’t need to tailor the team’s comp too much for me during the match.”
Sun He couldn’t help but feel emotional, convinced that he had made the right decision.
She seemed to understand his every thought, which gave him a strange sense of reassurance.
After a moment’s reflection, Sun He added, “Even though you’re not yet an official member, I suggest you stay at the team base for the next week. That way, someone will always be around to guide you whenever you’re awake.”
Though there wasn’t a room prepared for her at the dorms yet, Sun He still hoped she would stay—he’d feel more at ease knowing she was close by.
After all, with her condition, her practice schedule was unpredictable, and he wouldn’t always be available to answer her questions remotely.
However, Su Heng promptly rejected his offer. “No need. I’ll practice at the internet cafe and contact you if I have any questions.”
She pulled out her phone, unlocked it, and handed it to him.
Feeling a bit helpless, Sun He realized it might not be appropriate to insist she move in just yet. Sighing, he accepted the phone, typed in his number, and dialed.
In no time, his own phone buzzed in his pocket.
Returning her phone, he reminded her, “Make sure to contact me if anything comes up. I’ll come over right away.”
Su Heng tugged at the corner of her lips. “Okay.”
Though unsure how far she could go, she couldn’t let down the man who had invited her three times to join the team.
If she were going to do this, she would give it her all.
After Sun He left, Su Heng returned to the computer and began studying the skills of the two champions.
By the time her eyes started to blur, she had gone over 12 hours without sleep. Yet, aside from some eye strain, she still felt full of energy, as if she had endless stamina.
—
In the past few days, the Silver rank of League of Legends’ top server had been thrown into chaos by a player named “Sleeping.”
This player only used two champions—Lee Sin and Rek’Sai.
Whenever someone encountered Sleeping in ranked games, the match would almost always end in a 20-minute surrender.
Her teammates had no idea what she was doing—she didn’t gank throughout the game or participate in team fights. Meanwhile, her opponents could never find her, as if the whole match was a constant 4v5. Strangely enough, this player completely dominated the jungle.
Starting mid-game, the jungle—both her side and the enemy’s—fell under her control. You’d never spot her, yet somehow, she’d steal your red and blue buffs, as well as your wolves and stone golems, leaving nothing behind. If you waited by a camp before it respawned, sorry, she’d ambush and kill you first. If more than one player hid in the bushes hoping to catch her, they’d wait in vain. Even her team’s mid-laner or ADC had no chance of securing buffs for themselves.
If you tried reasoning with her in chat, there’d be no response—nobody had ever succeeded. Facing her meant trembling under her jungle dominance, and before you knew it, the game was lost. Being her teammate, however, often led to arguments between the jungler, mid-laner, and bot-lane carries—squabbling until defeat.
Thus, every silver-tier player who had encountered her remembered the name “Sleeping.” Seeing “Sleeping” on the loading screen was like encountering despair itself. And yes, as you guessed, this player was Su Heng.
This account was given to Su Heng by Sun He, who had even renamed it to “Sleeping” in the format of an official esports team. Su Heng happily accepted—after all, she wasn’t interested in leveling up herself. Initially, only a small number of players had encountered her, but her reputation as a “Silver-tier killer” spread thanks to a female streamer.
The streamer, Miya, wasn’t particularly skilled at the game but had gained a large following of fans thanks to her beauty, sweet voice, and playful demeanor. One day, Miya started her stream as usual, chatting briefly with her viewers before queuing for a solo ranked game. In her first match, she ended up on a team with “Sleeping.”
It might not have been a big deal if Miya had been on the enemy team, but the problem was that Miya was her team’s mid-laner—and she didn’t get a single blue buff the entire game. This frustrated Miya.
At level six, Miya spotted her team’s jungler fighting the blue buff and instinctively ran over to take it. Just as she was about to cast a spell, the jungler smited the buff, claiming it. Miya froze, confused by what had just happened, and typed a question mark in chat.
The stream chat exploded with comments like “666666” and “2333333,” teasing her. Miya was annoyed by the lack of a response from the jungler but held back her frustration since she was live streaming. However, when the blue buff respawned later and Miya tried to take it herself, the jungler swooped in again, smiting it at the last second.
This time, Miya couldn’t hold back her anger. The chat suggested that the jungler might have recognized her as a streamer and was deliberately stealing her buffs for attention. Feeling this made sense, Miya began typing in chat:
**“Bro, do you know who I am?”**
From the minimap, it was clear that the jungler had already moved on to steal the enemy’s red buff without a word. Miya was getting more frustrated.
**“What’s your deal? Why is a Lee Sin taking the mid-laner’s blue buff?”**
**“Don’t pretend you didn’t see me. This is the second time!”**
Meanwhile, Lee Sin finished stealing the red buff and bumped into the enemy Gragas. Without hesitation, Lee Sin landed a Q on Gragas and followed up with his second Q to close the gap. He used his E to slow Gragas and followed with basic attacks empowered by the red buff, quickly draining half of Gragas’s health.
Seeing things turn bad, Gragas tried to escape by using his E followed by Flash. But Lee Sin ward-hopped with W to chase him, kicking him into a wall with his ultimate. With only 100 HP left, Gragas ran in the opposite direction, hoping to survive.
Just as Gragas thought he was safe, Lee Sin’s Q came off cooldown, and he launched a Sonic Wave in Gragas’s direction. Without waiting to see the outcome, Lee Sin turned back towards his jungle, confident.
A second later, the screen displayed: **“Sleeping has slain Mu Lin Sen.”**
Both Miya and her 50,000 viewers saw it happen, and the chat went wild.
**“That was sick!”**
**“How is this Lee Sin even in silver rank?”**
**“Okay, I forgive him for stealing the buffs.”**
However, Su Heng remained oblivious to everything. She still hadn’t responded to Miya’s questions, which frustrated the streamer even more—almost more than if she had been killed herself.
What’s up with this Lee Sin? He took my mid-lane blue buff and then stole the enemy jungler’s red buff. Does he really think he owns the jungle?
The most frustrating part is that he completely ignored her. And since the chat was filled with viewers praising his plays, Miya couldn’t say anything to confront him.
Miya could only grit her teeth, swallow her frustration, and pretend to agree with the viewers by typing “6666” in the chat.
Not long after, the bot-lane ADC Jhin voiced what Miya didn’t dare to say. The trigger?
Lee Sin stole the ADC’s red buff as well.
Unlike Miya, who was streaming, Jhin had no filter and started swearing.
**”What the hell is wrong with you? You haven’t ganked even once, and now you have the nerve to steal my red buff?”**
**”What good is the red buff in your hands? Let’s see you carry the game with it!”**
**”It’s because of teammates like you that I can never climb the ranks!”**
Miya continued farming minions while enjoying the drama and venting to her viewers, “I gotta say, this Lee Sin is acting a bit weird. Not ganking is one thing, but stealing the mid’s blue and the ADC’s red? That’s just crossing the line.”
No matter how much the ADC cursed, Lee Sin kept doing his own thing—stealing buffs, grabbing both enemy and neutral jungle camps, whether they were his to take or not. And the worst part? No one could catch him. It was infuriating.
