Chapter 6 After waiting for a long time, there was no reply from Gong Yue. Wen Tang finally ran out of patience and simply took out her phone to play games. As they were getting close to home, Kexin received a phone call that startled her so much she nearly jumped out of her seat. Recently, Wen Haifeng had been calling Wen Tang, but she hadn’t answered a single time. Eventually annoyed, she simply blocked his number. After just a few days of peace, Wen Haifeng’s call had now gone directly to Kexin’s phone! Wen Haifeng knew that Kexin was Wen Tang’s assistant. He fawned over and flattered Wen Tang with honeyed words, but toward her assistant, he had a completely different attitude—arrogant and rude. His voice was so loud that both Wen Tang and Yangyang in the car could hear him clearly. Wen Tang knew Wen Haifeng’s voice all too well. The moment she heard it, she recognized it. She looked up to see Kexin covering the phone receiver with her hand, pacing anxiously in place. When she caught Wen Tang’s gaze, she silently asked what to do next—whether to take the call. But everyone around Wen Tang knew that the person she hated most in this world was her father. “Ah, Mr. Wen, it’s like this—Sister Tang is currently filming an advertisement…” Kexin was looking for an excuse to hang up when Wen Tang reached out and took the phone from her hand. Kexin watched helplessly as the phone passed to Wen Tang. Wen Tang now had her brow furrowed, her tone extremely impolite: “Wen Haifeng, what exactly do you want from me? Didn’t I tell you a long time ago not to contact me again?” Unexpectedly, when Wen Haifeng heard that Wen Tang had actually answered, he chuckled and said, “Tang Tang, what are you saying? I’m your father. Your dad misses you. How can’t I call you?” Wen Tang felt physically nauseated by his shameless attitude, wanting to retch. Before her eyes appeared the image of Wen Haifeng in a suit and tie, looking respectable and dignified, yet no amount of polished packaging could hide the greed in his eyes. If not for the group of people surrounding her, Wen Tang wouldn’t have known how selfish and despicable human nature could be. “Wen Haifeng, I don’t have time to waste talking nonsense with you.” Every extra second was a waste of time. She was about to hang up when Wen Haifeng, hearing her tone, immediately panicked. Wen Tang was absolutely capable of hanging up. She had even blocked his number—what wouldn’t she dare do? “…Wait, wait, wait!” Wen Haifeng stopped trying to be clever and got straight to the point. “It’s about An An, your younger brother! His eighteenth birthday is next month—his coming-of-age ceremony! We’re planning to make it a big celebration! You don’t want to see me, so I won’t show up in front of you. You don’t want to hear my voice, so I won’t call you. But this time, it’s for your brother!” Wen Tang assumed Wen Haifeng was calling to ask for money. She said coldly, “Didn’t you already ask Mom for money?” Wen Haifeng’s appetite had long been whetted. He now looked down on such small amounts. He clicked his tongue dismissively, “Just one million—what can that do? It’s not even enough for a birthday banquet!” Afraid Wen Tang would hang up on him without warning, Wen Haifeng didn’t waste time and directly stated what had been on his mind lately: “Your brother An An will be an adult next month, no longer a child. It’s time for him to move out and live on his own. As his older sister, you haven’t seen him in years and haven’t done much for him. This time, why don’t you contribute a little effort and get your brother a birthday gift? What do you think? We’ve found a villa in the Xi Lin area—not big, around eight hundred square meters, but size doesn’t matter. The three of us, plus two housekeepers, will have enough space. The price is only around sixty to seventy thousand per square meter—quite a bargain. And let me tell you, if we pay in full, we can get an even better discount…” “No way.” Unable to listen anymore, Wen Tang coldly spat out one word: “Get lost!” She hung up and blocked him in one swift motion. She threw the phone back to Kexin. Still fuming, she took out her own phone and called Liu Meifen. Once connected, Wen Tang said, “What’s wrong with you? How did Wen Haifeng’s call get to Kexin’s phone? Did you give it to him? What do you want from me? Do you want me to take Wen Haifeng in and give him several million a year to spend, and maybe even buy him a seaside house for retirement?” On the other end, Liu Meifen remained calm. She reproached Wen Tang: “He’s still your father after all. Look at yourself—what’s your attitude?” Wen Tang was furious: “No, he’s not my father. He’s just a scoundrel! A bastard! A murderer!” After hanging up, if Wen Tang still had any rationality left, she might have smashed her phone. Her anger was so intense that both Kexin and Yangyang trembled in fear. Tang Tang’s temper was getting worse by the day. …It was truly terrifying. This anger didn’t subside even after getting out of the car. The car drove directly into the apartment’s underground parking garage. After getting out, Wen Tang walked quickly ahead with an expressionless face, her high heels making crisp “tap-tap-tap” sounds on the ground. Kexin and Yangyang followed behind her. But unlike Wen Tang, who had her hands free, the two of them were laden with bags—carrying Wen Tang’s personal items and various luxury clothes and handbags that the brand had gifted them during today’s commercial shoot. In the end, they couldn’t keep up with Wen Tang’s pace. Still a few steps behind, they watched her enter the elevator. Just as she entered the elevator, Liu Meifen’s call came through again. Once connected, Liu Meifen said, “Wen Tang, let me tell you about your schedule for the next week. I have something to do and need to fly to Huzhou…” She had already forgotten the argument from moments before, as if it were just an ordinary matter not worth dwelling on or getting upset about. Little did she know that Wen Tang cared deeply. Wen Tang cut her off, her tone ice-cold: “Where you go and what you do, you don’t need to report to me. Even if you drag Wen Haifeng along to jump into the sea, it’s none of my business!” “Oh wait, actually, if that were the case, I’d be very grateful.” Liu Meifen, hearing this, immediately became angry: “Wen Tang, how can you talk to your mother like this? You…” Wen Tang didn’t want to listen anymore and hung up directly. She didn’t understand why it was so simple for others to have a responsible father and a caring mother, a happy family, yet it was so difficult for her. Wen Tang was so angry that tears streamed down her face. She raised her hand and wiped her tears with the back of it, her movements anything but gentle.
